The theme of 2005 World AIDS Day campaign is ‘HIV/AIDS: Stand up for the challenge. It’s everyone’s responsibility’. Through this theme, the WHO Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean is trying to motivate all members of the community to play their roles in the response to HIV/AIDS. |

Leaders! Keep the promise: Stop AIDS
The global theme for World AIDS Day 2007 is leadership. Leaders are distinguished by their action, innovation and vision.
However, leaders are not only those in the highest offices. Leadership can, and must, be demonstrated at every level in the fight against AIDS: in families, in communities, in countries and internationally.
Much of the best leadership on AIDS has been demonstrated by civil society organizations challenging stigma and discrimination. Making leadership the theme of the next two World AIDS Days, in both 2007 and 2008, will help encourage leadership on AIDS within all levels and sectors of society. |

Together towards HIV prevention, treatment and care for all
World AIDS Day is an important annual occasion during which we get the opportunity to raise our collective voices and take action to trigger and support an effective and sustained response to the growing AIDS epidemic in our Region.
The 2006 regional World AIDS Day campaign calls upon all political bodies, social entities and individuals from all ages and all walks of life to get involved. Throughout the countries of the Region, everyone is called upon to engage with and actively participate in the regional effort to curb the HIV/AIDS epidemic by 2010.
Based on the goal of universal access, the Regional Office is promoting an all-year-long campaign under the slogan: 'Together towards HIV prevention, treatment and care for all'. |

Women! Take the lead
World AIDS Day 2008 is being celebrated globally under the theme of leadership, with the global campaign slogan 'Leaders! Keep the promise: Stop AIDS!' and the regional campaign slogan 'Women! Take the lead'.
The contribution of women leaders has been considerable. Alongside men, women have undertaken innovative and effective action in the fight against the HIV and AIDS epidemic. |
