World AMR Awareness Week

Act Now: Protect our Present, Secure Our Future

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is not a distant problem. It’s happening now. AMR is impacting health systems, food security, the environment and economies. It’s threatening the well-being of families and communities across the Region.

The World Antimicrobial Awareness Week (WAAW) 2025 theme Act Now: Protect Our Present, Secure Our Future calls on everyone – policy-makers, health workers, farmers, community leaders, media and the general public – to step up and act.

During WAAW – from November 18 to 24 – we will join hands across sectors to promote urgent, coordinated action.

World AMR Awareness Week 2025: protect yourself not just today

To address AMR we need to focus on

Ensuring equitable access to quality medicines and diagnostics while promoting responsible antimicrobial use in human and animal health
Implementing infection prevention and control (IPC) in all health facilities
Improving water, sanitation, hygiene and waste management in communities and health care settings
Strengthening surveillance and data sharing to track drug-resistant infections
Building resilient local health systems anchored in primary health care
Financing national action plans for AMR and IPC, encouraging innovation
