Health system strengthening

Health system strengthening

In Pakistan, WHO supports health system strengthening by providing evidence-based support with a focus on 6 priority blocks:

governance;

service delivery;

health financing;

human resources for health (HRH);

vaccines and technologies; and

health information systems.

The main goal is to help achieve high-quality health and universal health coverage for everyone, no matter where they live or who they are.

Pakistan is committed to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals’ health-related targets, including universal health coverage. The targets are core to promoting health equity and the right to health, contributing to sustainable development and poverty reduction.

In recent years, WHO has paid particular attention to flagship initiatives such as the implementation of the universal health coverage package through a primary health care (PHC)-oriented model of care for integrated service delivery; the family practice approach (FPA), expanding the health insurance programme at the PHC level, and implementing the Patient Safety Friendly Hospital Framework.
