13 June 2018 – The Medical Response and Public Health Sector in the Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the Royal Air Force of Oman, airlifted yesterday a number of patients in intensive care units and their families to the Sultan Qaboos Hospital in Salalah after being evacuated to various hospitals in Oman to receive the necessary medical care during the tropical cyclone Mekunu.

The Ministry of Health transferred a number of patients who were taken to intensive care units in the hospitals of Khaola, Royal, Nizwa, Sohar and others by ambulance to the Royal Air Force of Oman Musannah Airbase accompanied by specialized medical teams and equipment under the supervision of the Ministry's emergency cases centre.

Accordingly, a number of the Royal Air Force of Oman planes airlifted the patients to Salalah where they were received by a group of ambulances and another medical team to transfer them to the Sultan Qaboos Hospital in Salalah.

The Ministry has coordinated with the Royal Air Force of Oman on Tuesday 24 May to airlift 30 critical cases, including premature babies, children and adults to intensive care units to Al-Seeb airbase. The patients were received by 62 equipped Ministry ambulances from all governorates in order to relieve the stress on the ambulances in the Muscat governorate. The patients were transferred according to their conditions to the hospitals of Royal, Khaola, Al-Nahda and referral hospitals in the nearby governorates of Sohar, Rustaq, Nizwa and Ibra.

Furthermore, a total of 218 dialysis patients were airlifted with their families to Muscat to continue to receive their treatment.
