Access to medicines
and technologies
In low- and middle-income
countries of the Region:
20 % - 60 %
of national health budgets is spent on
medicines and technologies.
Not everyone in the Region has proper access to
quality-assured, safe, reliable and efficacious essential
medicines and technologies. This can be attributed
to lack of clear policies, weak regulatory oversight,
limited public awareness, and improper management,
prescribing and use. Moreover, the ability of Member
States to overcome these challenges using innovation,
local production and/or technology transfer is limited.
