Meet the team
The WHO Health Emergencies Programme (WHE) team serves the WHO Eastern Mediterranean Region, which has a population of nearly 679 million people. In our work on health emergency preparedness and International Health Regulations, we guide and help the 22 countries and territories of the Region to advance their health security.
Our aim is to empower every country and territory to protect and enhance the health of its people in the face of health emergencies. We provide strategic, operational and technical support that focuses on preparedness, collaboration, evidence-based action, capacity-building, community engagement, innovation and transparency. The aim is to secure a healthier, safer future for all.
A team of more than 20 professional and administrative staff, national and international consultants, and United Nations Volunteers works on health emergency preparedness and International Health Regulations. Our team includes public health experts such as doctors, epidemiologists and public health managers, as well as specialists in risk communication, community engagement and infodemic management.
We also work with the wider WHE team and over 40 technical experts across the Region, as well as various partners across government and civil society, and other sectors beyond health. Together, we seek to improve the health and well-being of people of all ages, now and in future, through comprehensive and effective preparedness measures. This will ensure that communities across the Region are better equipped to respond to health emergencies.
