WHO highlights the growing need for health services in shelters hosting displaced families in Lebanon

Photo credit: WHO 9 March 2026, Beirut, Lebanon – Following a visit to 2 shelters hosting internally displaced people (IDPs), the World Health Organization (WHO) is underlining the urgent need for support to ensure health, sanitation and psychosocial services for impacted families. The visits to shelters operated with support from Caritas Lebanon, a key partner in the health sector response, were arranged as part of a joint mission involving WHO and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). The first shelter currently hosts nearly 2600 displaced individuals, the second around 200. Many residents have been displaced from southern Beirut and areas in southern Lebanon, with some families having experienced multiple displacement since 2024.
