Dr Adham R Ismail Abdel-Moneim, Director of Programme ManagementDr Ismail is a senior health leader with over 20 years of experience in public health and biomedical engineering.

Before taking on the role of Director of Programme Management at the WHO Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean on 1 September 2024, he served as WHO Representative and Head of Mission in Saudi Arabia, a role he had earlier occupied in both Yemen and Iraq

Before moving to Iraq, Dr Ismail worked for 13 years as part of the essential medicines and health technologies team at the Regional Office in Cairo where he assisted countries develop national strategies and programmes, designed regional guidelines and tools, promoted intersectoral collaboration, strengthened national capacities and pushed forward health technology assessment for better informed decision-making.

Before joining WHO, Dr Ismail worked as a professor in academic institutions in Egypt and the United States of America. He is the author of numerous articles and has participated in many national and international conferences.

Alongside his extensive working experience, Dr Ismail has advanced degrees in public health from the University of Roehampton (UK), in biomedical engineering from the University of Alexandria (Egypt) and in business administration from the Arab Academy for Science and Technology. He holds a PhD in biomedical engineering from University of Miami (USA).
