Report on the Regional consultation on improving quality of care and patient safety in the Region

An expert consultation on health care quality and safety improvement was held on 9–11 June 2014 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. It was organized by the WHO Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean in collaboration with the Saudi Central Board of Accreditation for Health care Institutions (CBAHI) and was attended by health care representatives of Member States, international experts on accreditation, quality and clinical governance in health care.

The main objectives of the consultation were to:

  • present the current status of quality of care and patient safety in Region and the challenges and gaps in information
  • review ongoing initiatives and programmes for safety and quality
  • share the different approaches to improve the quality of health care with focus on accreditation, quality assurance and clinical governance
  • develop a regional strategy and roadmap that can help improve the quality of care in countries of the Region.
