The Sixth WHO Global Forum for Government Chief Nursing and Midwifery Officers was convened from 14–15 May 2014, in Geneva, Switzerland. Participants at the Forum deliberated on how best the nursing and midwifery workforce can contribute towards universal health coverage efforts under three distinct themes: leadership and management, education, and collaboration.
The Forum was inaugurated by Her Royal Highness Princess Muna Al-Hussein of Jordan, WHO Patron for Nursing and Midwifery in the Eastern Mediterranean Region. Participants included senior government nursing and midwifery staff and representatives from key nursing and midwifery organizations.
The Forum provided an opportunity to reflect on achievements since the last Forum in 2012, which focused on noncommunicable diseases, and concluded with a Forum Statement that commits government chief nursing and midwifery officers to support and lead efforts towards universal health coverage.
