11 November 2021 – Join the WHO Director General Dr Tedros Ghebreyesus, Angela Merkel, Michele Bachelete, Ban Ki-moon, Dr Ahmed Al-Mandhari, Soumya Swaminathan and other policy-makers and prominent academics in the virtual Global E2P Summit “COVID-19 and institutionalizing use of evidence for policy-making for health” taking place on 15-17 of November.

The COVID-19 pandemic marks a turning point for evidence-informed health policy-making. Policy-makers, health care providers, and research actors faced major challenges in translating a rapidly evolving body of new evidence into tangible response efforts, and health policy decisions received unprecedented public attention.

To take stock of the state of lessons learnt, challenges and opportunities for evidence-informed policy-making in a post-COVID-19 world, a global Evidence-to-Policy (E2P) Summit is being organized. The event will offer a platform for researchers, policy-makers, health actors, civil society organizations and media representatives to spark new collaborations across the evidence ecosystem. Together, they will explore pathways to strengthening crisis-resilient country capacities, and spurring progress towards achieving WHO's triple billion targets and the Sustainable Development Goals.

During the Global Summit, there will be a special session dedicated to the experiences in WHO's Eastern Mediterranean Region, which will be inaugurated by the Regional Director Dr Ahmed Al-Mandhari. In this session, selected institutions from the Network of Institutions for Evidence and Data to Policy (NEDtP), as well as colleagues from the Regional Office, will be presenting and showcasing their activities during the pandemic. The session will reflect on the various opportunities to strengthen health policy-making based on evidence and data in the Region to support countries during emergencies as well as in ongoing programmes of work.
