16 May 2022 – With the support of the European Union (EU) in Lebanon and through ECHO funding, WHO delivered the first batch of insulin for the Chronic Care Center in Lebanon. This initial batch of 14 400 insulin supply contains 2 types of insulin pens and needles and will serve over 2000 patients with type 1 diabetes. Another batch of insulin is expected to arrive in the coming week.

This is part of WHO support to strengthen the resilience of the health care system in the face of crises and comes at a time when the country is struggling to maintain essential health services. WHO is working closely with the Ministry of Public Health and with support from the EU and donors to have essential medications for chronic and acute diseases available and accessible at primary health care centres.
