The WHO country office in Egypt awarded the winners of this year's World Health Day art competition on Wednesday 5 July 2017. This year’s art competition organized by WHO offered a certificate of appreciation and financial rewards. The paintings were selected from more than 250 paintings and were chosen by a committee from the Institute of Performing Arts.

Dr John Jabbour, WHO Representative in Egypt, noted that WHO's work in public health was not always an easy subject to talk about, never mind illustrate, but that the children had created some incredible artwork that was amazing and beautiful to look at.

WHO Egypt organizes the art competition, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, every year by inviting school students to participate.

The theme of this year’s day, “Depression: let's talk” aimed to talk about the rights of persons with mental disorders, including depression and raise awareness about available treatment modalities.

World Health Day is celebrated every year on 7 April. This theme of this year’s World Health Day campaign was aimed at everyone, whatever their age, sex or social status, but particular attention was paid to 3 groups that can be affected by depression: adolescents and young adults, women of childbearing age (particularly following childbirth) and older adults over 60 years.
