26 November 2013 — Today, the Ministry of Public Health and Population and the WHO Yemen honoured a group of media people for their effective role in highlighting health issues during recent years. According to the local Center for Health Education and Information, this group has played a significant role in strengthening media campaigns related to health and raising awareness of health issues among the population.

Dr Ahmed Shadoul, WHO Representative for Yemen, expressed gratitude to all those who had contributed to promoting health issues through the media. “The role of the media in upholding health issues is no less important than the role of the ministry of health or WHO,” he said, noting that the media could also help the population to voice their right to health. Dr Shadoul also said that with the help of the media different epidemics could be better controlled.

Professor Al-Ansi of the Ministry said that the health sector was suffering from insecurity and economic challenges and that with the help and cooperation of the media the Ministry was able to overcome various challenges.
