Activities in the Region

Regional Office activities

  • Interview with Dr Ghanim Alsheikh, Regional Adviser, Human Resources Development will be broadcasted on Radio Qanat Al Akhbar, FM 91.5 at 20:00 GMT (22:00 Cairo Time), Thursday 06 April 2006.

  • Interview with Dr Ghanim Alsheikh, Regional Adviser, Human Resources Development will be broadcasted on Radio El Barnamaj El Thaqafi (The Educational Programme) on FM 89.5 on Wednesdays at  21:15 GMT (23:15 Cairo Time).

  • Interview with Dr Ghanem Al Sheikh, Regional Adviser, Human Resources Development, World Health Organization Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean will take place on Mnara Scientific Channel, Nile Sat.  The interview will be on 6 April 2006 20:45 GMT (22:45 Cairo Time), and will be repeated on 7 April at 14:45 GMT (16:45 Cairo Time). 

  • "Interview with Dr Ghanem Alsheikh” on Radio Deutsche Welle, Germany, Arabic Service. The interview for World Health Day will be broadcast on Thursday, 6 April in the evening and repeated throughout the week. The radio and the interview can be heard through the internet as follows:

    Choose Arabic language.
    Then choose radio.
    Then go to the Medical Journal programme (Al-Majalla Al-Arabeyah).
    The interview can also be heard on the radio channels of Nile Sat on the same date and time and throughout the week.

Djibouti

  • 15 activities are planned to mark World Health Day. Four main activities will be attended by the Deputy Regional Director, Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean.

  1. Production of World Health Day newsletter focused on human resources

  2. Launching of World Health Day library during a visit by H.E. the Minister of Health

  3. Inauguration of 2 Basic Development Needs sites

  4. Production of billboards on WHO activities.

 Egypt

  1. A videoconference will be organized by the Ministry of Education, national network for training, on 6 April 2006.

  2. Many days will be allocated to discuss the health programmes  under the World Health Day slogan “Working together for health”

  3. The Egyptian syndicate for physicians is organizing a 2-day conference under the title “Medicine: education and profession”, which will also be the theme of Egyptian Physician’s Day.

  4. The Assuit Student Scientific Association will hold a seminar under the title Working together for health. A bookstand will be set up outside the seminar displaying the World Health Day material.

The seminar will be held in Assuit University on 10 April 2006.

Islamic Republic of Iran

This year’s World Health Day which focuses on the global theme of “Working Together for Health” was officially celebrated in Iran on 9 April 2006.  The opening ceremony was attended by H. E. Dr A. Davoudi,  the First Vice President of I.R. Iran, H.E. Dr Kamran Lankarani, Minister of Health and Medical Education, H.E. Mr. Farshidi, Minister of Education, H.E. Dr Omidvar Rezaie, Head of Health Commission in the Parliament, H.E. Mr Kazemi, Minister of Welfare and Social Security, H.E. Sardar Hejazi, the Commander of Basij Forces, Mr Nayeri, Head of Imdad Committee Relief Organization, Chancellors of Universities of Medical Sciences, Head of Police, Journalists, Media ad other high level authorities who have had an active role in Health Affairs.

  2. Advocacy and mass media (press releases, television/radio interviews)

  3. Broadcasting Regional Director’s message and possible live interview with H.E. Minister of Health on that day

  4. Celebration of the World Health Day under patronage of HRH Princess Muna and H.E. the Minister of Health on 18 April
