Award
Every year, the World Health Organization (WHO) presents several awards to key people that have made invaluable contributions to tobacco control as well as those who have helped make World No Tobacco Day (WNTD), its theme and its celebration a great success. These awards are a sentiment of appreciation on behalf of WHO to the great efforts and time that these people have invested in the campaign as well as in fighting tobacco.
This year, four WNTD awards have been presented to the following individuals:

Dr Tawfik Khoja, Executive Director, Health Ministers Council for Gulf Cooperation Council States, Saudi Arabia;

Dr Hessein Hamouda, Director, Department of Health and Environment and Technical Secretariat Officer, Council of Arab Health Ministers, League of Arab States, Egypt;

Dr Mohammad Esmaeil Akbari, Undersecretary for Health, Iran; and
-
Mr Amr Khaled, Islamic Scholar, Egypt.
Each of these candidates received their awards during the 2004 WNTD celebrations held in the various Member States where they reside.
