Second-hand smoke kills; let’s clear the
air. World No Tobacco Day (WNTD) 2001
focused on second-hand smoke as it is a
real and significant threat to public
health. Supported by two decades of
evidence, the scientific community now
agrees that there is no safe level of
exposure to second-hand smoke.
Moreover, WNTD 2001 was also celebrated
at a time when WHO’s Member States began
discussing the articles of the Framework
Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC)
which, when issued, will be the world’s
first legal document of its kind used to
control tobacco.
