Workshop on Media and Tobacco
Enhancing the Role of the Media in
Tobacco Control
EMRO, Cairo, Egypt, 31 May - 3 June 2001
The World Health Organization, is
organising a Workshop on Enhancing the
Role of the Media in Tobacco Control,
which will be held in EMRO, Cairo,
Egypt, from the period 31 May till 3
June 2001, this workshop is one of the
FCTC related workshops.
The objectives of the Workshop are:
-
to support tobacco control message
in the regional media and media
within the Region;
-
to develop new strategies, to
effectively address tobacco health
hazards by the media;
-
to enhance the media understanding
of issues related to tobacco use.
The Workshop will provide a chance for
exchanging opinions at different levels.
By this Workshop, WHO is seeking to give
Tobacco Control the due importance in
the regional media, and to put it in the
appropriate position on the map of
Regional Media.
Experts from Egypt, Jordan, Iran,
Lebanon, Pakistan, Syria, England, and
Switzerland, are invited to participate
in this workshop. Two trainers from
Routers Foundation in London where
invited to train Journalists and
regional media specialists on how to
make appealing tobacco control coverage.
By the end of the workshop, the Regional
Director will release the second volume
of the regional report VOICE OF TRUTH in
a press conference.
