Upon receiving a kind invitation form the Syrian-German Doctors Association to WHO to attend the 4th Joint Expert Seminar (Management of Emergency), Dr.Ibrahim Betelmal, WHO Representative in Syria on behalf of Dr Hussein Gezairy, the Regional Director represented WHO in this seminar on 14th April 2009.

The Syrian-German Doctors Association organized this seminar on annual basis in collaboration with Shaheed Mamdouh Abaza Hospital (Golan hospital) in Quneitra (MOH), University of Erlangen (Germany), German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and Arab Medical Doctors Union in Europe (ARABMED).

The meeting was inaugurated by the Director of Health (Quneitra governorate) on behalf of H.E. the Minister of Health. Dr Betelmal made a technical presentation on the concept of Community-Based Initiatives and an overview on the Healthy Villages experience in Quneitra governorate. At the end of the first technical session, Dr Betelmal received an award from Dr Faidi Mahmoud and Dr Khalil Bajbouj on behalf of the association as an appreciation to WHO role and support to the health issues in Syria.  

It is worth mentioning that the WHO Representative was accompanied by Dr.Ashour Gebreel (WHO consultant on complex humanitarian emergencies), Dr.Nazar Elfaki (WHO medical officer) and Mr Saad Alzein (WHO IT) in this seminar.
