On
Wednesday 11th March, the Director
General of the World Health Organization
(WHO) Dr. Margaret Chan, WHO
representative in Syria Arab Rebuplic Dr
Ibrahim Betelmal and Dr Imad Eldekr
Deputy Minister of Health participated
in the "Million Youths March” for
combating tuberculosis in Syria Arab
Rebuplic. The march in Damascus was
organized by the Ministry of Health in
cooperation with WHO in addition to
several ministries, local and
international organizations and
associations.
Thousands of school
and university students, Syrian Arab Red
Crescent volunteers, youth association,
representatives of public sectors, and
workers in the health sector marched
from Al-Hijaz Station to Damascus
Castle, carrying banners expressing the
seriousness of this disease and
stressing the importance of cooperation
and the role of youths in combating it.
Dr. Chan expressed
her happiness over the participation of
Syria's youths in the march. She pointed
out to the measures taken by Syria to
combat the disease, affirming that the
threat of tuberculosis lies in its
ability to overlap boundaries, which
necessitates uniting national and
international efforts to control it.
It is worth
mentioning that “The Million Youths
March” has also been organized in
several governorates in Syria organized
by the Health Directorates and under the
auspices of the Governors.
