H1N1 training workshop for health professionals:

H.E. the Minister of Health, the Regional Director, the Deputy Minister of Higher Education, WHO Representative and the Project Coordinator of the Health Sector Modernization Project supported by the European Union attended the opening session of a training workshop for health professionals on 2009 H1N1 pandemic which was conducted in Al Asad University Hospital in Damascus (17-18/10/09).

The aim of the workshop was to build the capacity of health professionals working at intensive care units in the hospitals to manage cases of Influenza A H1N1 organized my MOH in collaboration with Ministry of Higher Education, WHO, European Union (Health Sector Modernization Project) and Syria American Medical Association.

It was the fourth among series of workshops conducted in Aleppo, Lattakia and Damascus.

In the opening remarks, the Regional Director gave briefing on the situation of H1N1 globally and in the Eastern Mediterranean Region. He stressed on the rumors and miss concepts related to the 2009 H1N1 vaccines. He reassured the safety of the vaccine and its importance especially for the high risk groups and the health workers dealing with cases of 2009 H1N1.

H.E. the Minister of Health thanked WHO for the technical support provided during the 2009 H1N1 pandemic. He also gave short a brief on the situation of 2009 H1N1 pandemic in Syrian Arab Republic and MOH measures for reducing the impact of the pandemic. It is worth mentioning that these series of workshops were facilitated by to WHO international consultants and three national consultants and the training included technical presentations as well as practical sessions through case studies.

4th Joint Expert Seminar on Management of Emergency‏

 

Upon receiving a kind invitation form the Syrian-German Doctors Association to WHO to attend the 4th Joint Expert Seminar (Management of Emergency), Dr.Ibrahim Betelmal, WHO Representative in Syria on behalf of Dr Hussein Gezairy, the Regional Director represented WHO in this seminar on 14th April 2009.

A Field visit to 11 villages in Aleppo

Upon an invitation received from Dr Tayseer Alradawi, the Head of State Planning Commission (SPC) to both WHO and UNDP to visit Aleppo governorate, on 21th march 2009, to view the status of 11 selected villages considered as the poorest villages in the country and how UN agencies can assist in developing a comprehensive plan for sustainable development and poverty alleviation.

Million Youths March for combating tuberculosis in Syria

Damascus ,11 March 2009

 

The Director General of the World Health Organization (WHO) Dr. Margaret Chan, her advisor Dr. Ian Smith, WHO representative in Syria Dr Ibrahim Betelmal, Dr. Mhd. Imad Eldaker Deputy Minister of Health  and country office staff participated in the "Million Youths March” for combating tuberculosis in Syria. The march in Damascus was organized by the Ministry of Health in cooperation with WHO in addition to several ministries, local and international organizations and associations.
