First-grade students tested for TB in Somalia
In
a country-wide survey, 18300 first-grade students from all zones in Somalia
are being tested for TB. The main objective of the 6-day-long survey is to
measure the annual risk of infection (ARTI) and also determine the
prevalence and incidence of the disease. The survey is a joint effort
between WHO and the Ministry of Health with 30 teams and 24 supervisors
involved.
The National Tuberculosis Control Programme in Pakistan has begun
issuing a newsletter entitled NTP EVENTS. The newsletter’s main objective is
to inform and update all those interested in TB news and all those working
for TB control in Pakistan whether it be NGOs, International organizations
or media people in the country about the work and activities of the NTP.

DOTS in complex emergencies
Somalia has achieved 88% treatment success rate while under a complex
emergency situation. WHO has taken a coordinating role in developing
partnerships with NGOs, local authorities and international partners and
provides them with drugs, laboratory supplies and technical assistance.
Every year, around 6000 TB patients are detected and treated under strict
DOTS activities.
