The meeting was part of the exploratory phase of the partnership building, it aimed at giving an orientation for different partners about the scope of the partnership regarding its goals, objectives, potential activities and executive structure.
Attendants were representatives for NGOs and students' organization also media people and university professors, and different governmental directorates of the ministry of health in addition to the governorates' coordinators of TB.
The meeting was chaired by Dr. Mohammed Awad Tag-ELDin, the chair of the EM regional partnership to Stop TB, and in presence of Dr. Zuhair Hallaj and Dr. Akihiro Seita from WHO EMRO.
Preparation for the event included designing a logo and a slogan for the partnership, designing and printing some advocacy materials consisting of a brochure, a banner and rollups. Also a formal invitation was sent to all potential partners few days prior to the meeting rather than phone call and direct conversations.

 

 

 

What is Partnership ?


Rationale:
Control of tuberculosis requires a multidisciplinary approach. The scale-up of tuberculosis control activities cannot be achieved solely by national tuberculosis program, the traditional player in tuberculosis control.
National tuberculosis partnership need to be extended to nongovernmental sectors and civil society and strengthened to complement and contribute to existing coordination mechanisms.

Vision:Egypt is free from Tuberculosis by 2050

Mission:
To reduce the human suffering of TB.
To reduce the spread of TB.
To achieve Stop TB target for global TB eradication

Objectives:
To create a national response to fight TB
To provide accurate information about TB and the fight against it.
To be a platform for agencies and stakeholders to contribute to the fight against TB
To raise additional resources for Stop TB (human resource, expertise financial resources, in-kind contributions)
To share common resources on the basis of performance output

Criteria for becoming a member:
Egypt is free from Tuberculosis by 2050

Members of the partnership will be able to propose other members when they feel that they may contribute to the program and accepting the new members will be through a consensus

Procedures:

Frequency of regular meetings:
Quarterly meeting should be conducted regularly in addition to extra ordinary meetings as decided by executive board
Appointment and determination of terms of office of chair, vice-chair, executive secretary and members:
In the first formal meeting of the partnership an election should be conduction to select the Executive board and adopting the constitution and bylaws of the partnership.
Appointment and location of secretariat and its functions
The national Tuberculosis control Program has appointed temporary contracted secretary to take care with the birth of the partnership and to arrange for meeting and help in setting up the constitution and he will be based at the national TB training & research center The executive board shall decide who will take the responsibility of secretary which is the term of reference of this job.


Decision making:
Decision within the partnership will be taken by consensus or as settled by the constitution & Bylaws that well be developed by an initial committee
