The National Tuberculosis control Program in Egypt (NTP-Egypt) held
recently the annual course for TB control. The course was conducted
for multiple successive years in collaboration between the Japanese
International Collaboration Agency (JICA), WHO EMRO, and NTP-Egypt
The course was conducted in the National Training Center for
Tuberculosis and Chest diseases, MOH, Cairo, Egypt in the period
from October 25th till November 18th 2009. Participants were from
Sudan, Djibouti, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iraq.
The course aimed to:
Update the knowledge of tuberculosis and its
control
Improve analytical skills necessary for the situation analysis for
TB control,
Develop skills about Electronic Nominal Registration System to
improve the TB recording and reporting system in their areas of
responsibilities.
Improve participants knowledge in MDR-TB management
Improve participants knowledge in Practical Approach to Lung
health (PAL)
Improve participants knowledge in TB drug management
Participants are capable of organizing 5-S principles in health
facilities after learning process and the exposure to management of
health facilities guided by TQM.
1st and 2nd week of the course were about TB control components, 3rd
week was about total quality management and 4th week was about PPM
(Public Private Mix in TB control.
The course was conducted in the form of: Lectures using PowerPoint
presentations, self learning , using TB training modules, Group
studies, Working groups , Field Trips , Problem based learning and
Case studies
The participants were selected according to some criteria like: they
were nominated by their respective Governments , holders of medical
University Graduate, medical doctors , biomedical scientists,
technologist, nurses, priority will given to participants affiliated
to the National Programs of TB program in their countries, a
mid-career leader position, with experience on one or more of the
relevant subjects of the course, age between twenty five (25) and
fifty (50 years with a least three years practical experience,
desirable that 20% of the participants will be high carrier health
professions, 60% mid-carriers and 20% junior staff, in a good
command of spoken and written English, have the nationality of the
nominating country, and in good health, both physically and
mentally, to complete the course. Participants who were succeeded
complete the course awarded a certificate of attendance.

The training course has covered all important topics of TB control
and total quality management
Participation of WHO Expert, EMRO staff, Total Quality management
Team from Ministry of Health, National AIDS Program of Egypt,
infection control department and universities
Participation of TB Ambassador of Jordon (Mrs. Rania Ismaeel) famous
movie star in Jordon by presentations for her activities with Jordon
TB program in TB control
Participation of other countries : one participant from Oman
participate in the training course funded from TB Fellowship in WHO/
EMRO as General information booklet was sent to some countries to
fund for their participants from their local or external funds
