Tenth Meeting of
National Tuberculosis Programme Managers in the Eastern
Mediterranean Region Country exercises on “Where are we now?” During the NTP meeting in Muscat, an exercise to review the progress, or to see “where are we now?” was conducted. The attached Excel sheet was developed to assist the participants in reviewing progress in case notifications and treatment outcomes in DOTS areas of your country from 1995 to 2005. The work file contains 8 worksheets. Of them, the first 3 worksheets are for the exercise. · Notific. (notifications): worksheet for exercise on DOTS expansion, case notifications, case notification rates, and case detection rates. · Tx results (treatment results: worksheet for exercise on treatment outcomes among new cases and re-treatment cases · Age&sex (age and sex): worksheet for exercise on age and sex distribution of new smear positive cases and their age-specific notification rates
In these three worksheets, participants were asked to enter the data of their country. There were no need to enter any data in non-highlighted areas, as calculation was automatically done when the data was entered in the highlighted areas.
The second 3 worksheets contain figures (graphs) that should automatically be drawn when the data is filled in the first three worksheets. The figure worksheets are: · Fig. CDR TSR: (figures on case detection rates and treatment success rates). There are four figures that should automatically drawn when you enter the data in the first two worksheets. The figures are: DOTS coverage; Tread of DOTS case detection rate; Trend of DOTS treatment success rate; and Trend of treatment success and case detection. · Fig. notif. (Figure on notification rates). This worksheet contains one figure showing the trend of case notifications of smear positive, pulmonary and all forms of TB. The figure should also be drawn automatically when you enter the data in the first worksheet. · F. age.sex (Figures on age & sex): This worksheet contains three figures on trend on age-specific notification rates of new smear positive cases. One for male, one for female, and one for both sex combined. These figures may be interesting to see the trend in age distribution in TB cases, which could be a good indicator of epidemiological trend of TB in the community. These three figures again should be drawn automatically when you enter the data in the third worksheet of age and sex.
Attached is a partly completed example file in which theoretical data (not real ones) have been filled for the sake of demonstration. Again, this file is incomplete and many parts are missing. Nevertheless, this file can be used to understand how the file and worksheets work when the data required is filled.
