
The WHO Somalia
Library, Information
and Documentation Center was established in 2003 in Hargeisa. The center
collects, organizes and disseminates medical and health-related
literature to respond to the information requests of the Public
Institutions, other United Nations agencies and international
organizations, as well as researchers from the country.
Objectives of the Center are:

To provide library services to WHO staff
members in support of WHO programmes; and
-
To
cooperate and assist with Ministry of Health, Medical Universities,
Health Science, Institutes, Medical Associations and other Public
Institutions to improve health, science libraries, documentation
centers and literature services at country level.

Library database (WHOLIS)
Full text of WHO publications and documents is available free
from WHOLIS, the WHO Library web database. WHOLIS indexes all WHO
publications from 1948 onwards and articles from WHO-produced journals
and technical documents from 1985. An on-site card catalogue provides
access to the pre-1986 technical documents.

(GIFT)
The WHO Library team at Headquarters (LNK) have launched an initiative
to allow access for all WHO staff worldwide to an online full text
library of journals and databases.

Access to Research Initiative (HINARI)
The HINARI program, set up by WHO together with major
publishers, enables developing countries to gain access to one of the
world's largest collections of biomedical and health literature. Over
3300 journal titles are now available to health institutions in 113
countries, benefiting many thousands of health workers and researchers,
and in turn, contributing to improved world health.
