23 May 2017 – Twelve health research proposals have been recommended for funding under the Research in Priority Areas of Public Health (RPPH) 2016–2017 grant scheme. Selected projects covered the priority areas pertaining to WHO’s strategic areas of work, namely: health system development and strengthening; emergency preparedness and response; communicable disease prevention and control; maternal, child, adolescent health and nutrition; and prevention and control of noncommunicable and mental health disorders.
RPPH grants aim at translating research results into policy and practice, improving health and promoting the engagement of individuals and communities in using research evidence to promote health and reduce the disease burden in their respective countries.
118 proposals were reviewed from 17 countries (Egypt, Islamic Republic of Iran, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Oman, Pakistan, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates, and Yemen), out of which 12 were funded (Table 1).
