Dr Thieren meets Mr Abdullah Khalifa Al Ghafli Director of the United Arab Emirates Pakistan Assistance Programme17 July 2016 – On 13 July 2016 Dr Michel Thieren, WHO Pakistan Representative, visited the United Arab Emirates embassy in Islamabad and met with Mr Abdullah Khalifa Al Ghafli Director of the United Arab Emirates Pakistan Assistance Programme (UAE/PAP). Mr Abdullah and Dr Thieren discussed among other topics, the progress of the ongoing "Polio Supplementary Immunization Activities Campaign Operations” project.
The US$ 8.3 million UAE/PAP/WHO project has been made possible thanks to the commitment of the Government of the United Arab Emirates in ensuring that over 10 million children receive oral polio vaccine in the 66 highest risk districts in Federally Administered Tribal Araras, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Baluchistan and Sindh.
Mr Abdullah expressed satisfaction with meeting and agreed to explore new activities and events for joint collaboration with WHO to end polio in Pakistan.
