First regional nutrition conference: Nutrition challenges in the Eastern Mediterranean Region

The first regional nutrition conference, entitled Nutrition challenges in the Eastern Mediterranean Region, took place at the Department of Health Sciences, College of Arts and Sciences, Qatar University, Doha, Qatar from 28 to 29 March 2011. The aim of the conference was to share nutrition research results, review current knowledge in nutrition and exchange ideas on key areas of common interest to the countries of the Region:

The conference’s programme presented recent advances and up-to-date knowledge on nutrition topics of interest in the Region. This was delivered through keynote talks by experts in the field, plenary sessions, and oral and posters presentations. Topics included:

obesity as a global epidemic

dyslipidemia and coronary heart disease

the nutrition transition in the Eastern Mediterranean Region

the global food industry and human health

vitamin D and bone health

nutrition and dietetics education and training in the Region.
