World Health
Day 2001
Stop exclusion
- Dare to care
World Health Day, celebrated on 7 April every year, has always been
an occasion to highlight important public health issues and to
promote discussion and debate of various aspects of prevention and
promotion of health. In 2001, mental health was selected as the
theme for Day under the slogan “Stop exclusion-Dare to care” as a
manifestation of the importance of mental health across the world.
The slogan for the Day, reflected the need to address mental health
concerns openly and honestly. It posed an opportunity for
influencing public opinion and triggering vigorous debate on how to
improve the conditions of people with mental disorders wherever they
may be, for nobody is immune to mental disorders. Furthermore, their
heavy impact goes beyond the psychological and individual to the
social let alone the economic toll that they claim.
