Visit of Dr Alireza Nikniaz, MEP Director Iran, to EMRO and the MEP Programme in Egypt

From 26th to 30th September 2004, Dr Alireza Nikniaz, National Director of the MEP Programme in Iran visited EMRO.  The aim of the visit was for him to brief staff on the progress and nature of the programme in Iran, give his feedback on the programme in Egypt and discuss future directions with the Regional Office staff.

During a briefing to the Division of Health Systems and Services Development, he gave an overview of the health system in Iran in terms of its organization, structure and the common health concerns faced in the country.  He further elaborated on how the programme had successfully integrated pre-existing initiatives such as Total Quality Management (TQM) and described some of the successes being seen at the local level in terms of improving health care processes.

In his feedback on the programme in Egypt, he noted the strong commitment of the tutor-mentors and documented improvements observed at sites. He also commented on the effectiveness of the District Problem Solving Approach that he had observed being implemented. For future directions, parties discussed key activities for the successful expansion and development of the programme in Iran.
