October 2004

The MEP programme is in the process of moving its physical location to the National Primary Healthcare Management Center at the Tabriz University for Medical Studies.  The construction of the Center was funded by the World Bank.

September 2004

From 26th to 30th September 2004, Dr Alireza Nikniaz, National Director of the MEP Programme in Iran visited EMRO.  The aim of the visit was for him to brief staff on the progress and nature of the programme in Iran, give his feedback on the programme in Egypt and discuss future directions with the Regional Office staff. August 2004

A two day training workshop was held from 19-20 August 2004 to introduce newly developed clinical guidelines to experts from medical universities across the country.  Approximately 40 participants attended the meeting to become familiar with procedures for managing cases of head trauma, dyspepsia, constipation and hypertension.

July 2004

On 19th July, Dr Mubasher Sheikh, the World Health Organization's Representative to Iran visited the MEP Programme at the Tabriz University of Medical Sciences.  Dr Sheikh was briefed  by the MEP National Director, Dr Alireza Nikniaz on the history of the project, progress to date and proposed future activities. He further met with Dr Jodati, Manager of Tabriz University of Medical Sciences to discuss implementation and progress of MEP with a view to expansion to new sites. 

The day was completed by a visit to the health care sites of Az-Zahra Hospital and Sina Health Center that are currently implementing the programme.  This gave the delegation an opportunity to see at first-hand  the  progress made at the local level.
