  Increasing the number of children undergoing haemoglobin testing

 

Priority problem: To increase the number of children under 5 undergoing the test to determine haemoglobin levels.

Methods used: Team assigned to collect data using checksheet, physical observation, laboratory and pediatrics record review. Flowchart, fishbone, RASCI, Gantt chart used in analysis.

   

 

 

Solutions:  Awareness-raising activities for mothers about HB testing, Establishing a link between Mother and child clinic, and vaccination room and laboratory, Efforts at more accurate sampling and decrease waiting time, developing maintenance plan for laboratory equipment, training of doctors in new sampling techniques.

Results: The number of children under 5 years attending the laboratory to undertake test increased by 25% during 2004.
