Managing & Leading Successful Change
For this module, view
Change is not a single event, nor even a series of events. It is an on-going process that is ever escalating in intensity and pace. An effective change agent must develop the abilities to continually assess many factors that are present within the organization. The MEP is designed to improve health systems through more effective organizational management processes. The MEP changes the way individuals operate within the system, and it changes how the system operates. Dealing with change, and being able to support others during the change process is an important part of the MEP. Dealing with change is also essential for health systems improvement. This module is designed to help individuals understand how change affects the people who work within an organization, and it is included in the MEP because organizations can only learn, develop and grow through processes of change. Important questions to consider are:
Who is responsible for the change process?
Who are the main stakeholders involved in the change?
How will the change be evaluated?
What are the main reasons for resisting change?
Rationale
An understanding of the components of change is an essential tool in creating and maintaining organizational success. The changing healthcare environment demands that leaders recognize, accept and facilitate creative and effective change. Only through change will individuals and organizations improve. It includes information and exercises that will help you appreciate the difficulties of change and help you understand the processes involved for successful organizational change.
Aims
The primary aim of this module is:
To enable you to develop the required knowledge, skills, attitudes and behaviours necessary for managing and leading change.
The module will help you to realize that change is a process, not an event. Change, even good change, is difficult for people. This module will give you tools for working with change and will provide you with the resources to deal with the changes that the MEP will bring to you and your organization.
