The annual meeting of the regional Scientific and Technical Advisory Committee (STAC) of the WHO/EMRO/UNEP/GEF-supported project will be held in Khartoum, Sudan, from 25 to 27 June 2013.

The meeting will be attended by the nominated national project coordinators from Djibouti, Egypt, Islamic Republic of Iran, Jordan, Morocco, Sudan, Syrian Arab Republic and Yemen. Regional STAC members and vector control experts will also attend.

The objectives of the meeting are to:

• present draft report on midterm evaluation of the project to be finalised and endorsed by the STAC
• present and review the status of the regional demonstration project on DDT alternatives
• identify challenges and constraints in the implementation of demonstration activities in selected project countries
• report on the status of cost–effectiveness tools and any data collected to date
• propose recommendations and the way forward on the timely implementation of the project on DDT alternatives.
