MENTAL HEALTH INCLUDING SUBSTANCE ABUSE

Situation analysis

The planned activities for last biennium have been carried out and the results were positive.

There is a need for continuation of the same activities for the coming biennium 2002-2003.

Activities identified in the plan of action in 1999 were carried out and the results are positives. The next biennium activities should be the continuation of the previous programme.

Main achievements

About 100 doctors working in primary and tertiary levels were trained in the field of Psychiatry during the last two years of the programme.

Main constraints

Stigma, financial shortage and lack of appreciation of mental health value.

Objectives

To promote mental health on all health care levels by training workers to have the knowledge and skills in treatment and help of mentally ill persons.

Priorities

- To increase awareness among health progression on mental health problems.

Performance indicators

 

  • Guidelines on the prevention and management of common mental health problems.
     
  • Number of health professionals trained.
