FORMULATION OF HEALTH POLICY

Health insurance
 

The national health policy is part of the socio-economic development plan and recognizes the right of all citizens to health services. The MOH is committed to the provision of accessible and affordable quality health care to all citizens. The country is witnessing epidemiological and demographic transitions, which are putting additional constraints on the health system. The rising cost of health care while increased population and expectation calls for innovative approaches to health care financing including extension of coverage by health facilities throughout the country. Also, Jordan has initiated national health account analysis as part of EMR initiative. The country has a growing private sector and there is a need to ensure more coordination between private and public sectors. MOH is introducing training in health management. Collaboration exists in this programme area with USAID, World Bank and other bilaterals. This collaboration falls in areas of PHC, health reform, strengthening national capacity and health technology.

FOMULATION OF HEALTH POLICIES

Situation analysis

The national health policy is part of national comprehensive socio-economic development plan. In 1996, Jordan has developed its own health strategy and a national health plan. The strategy needs to be updated to take into consideration new challenges facing the health system and changing health problems.There is a slo a need to develop the new national health development plan along with Jordan National Health Account report taking into consideration participation of all concerned parties.

Objectives

1.To review and update the national health strategy
2.To formulate the new health development plan
3.To review and update the national health account.

Priorities

The updating and finalization of the national health strategy and plan is the main priority.
