HRH Princess Muna al-Hussein of Jordan18 April 2018 – Under the patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Muna Al-Hussein, the Jordanian Nursing Council, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and the WHO country office in Jordan, celebrated World Health Day 2018 which commemorated WHO's 70th anniversary under the theme “Universal Health Coverage: Everyone, Everywhere” and the 40th anniversary of the Alma-Ata Declaration on Primary Health Care, which set the goal of “Health for All”.

World Health Day in Jordan was celebrated at the nursing policy forum on investing in the nursing workforce. The “Jordan Nursing Now” campaign was launched by Her Royal Highness, Patron for Nursing and Midwifery in the WHO Eastern Mediterranean Region. The campaign aims to improve health globally by raising the profile and status of nurses worldwide, influencing policy-makers and supporting nurses themselves to lead, learn and build a global movement.

The celebration highlighted the need for health system strengthening which is vital for sustainable improvement, protecting health, and achieving universal health coverage. Universal health coverage means ensuring access to quality health services without any financial hardship for everyone, everywhere.

To celebrate the 40 years of the Alma-Ata Declaration on Primary Health Care the event also witnessed the launch of the “National Mental Health and Substance Use Action Plan 2018-2021”. The plan will ensure that well established and integrated mental health services are available at primary health care level to reach and protect people living with mental conditions and advocates for their full inclusion into society.

World Health Day 2018 calls to pledge a commitment to “Health for All”, without discrimination; leaving no one behind to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030.
