The World Health Organization, Eastern Mediterranean Regional Office (WHO/EMRO) and the Ministry of Health and Population, Supreme Council of Egyptian Universities, Egyptian Universities Network (EUN)  and Egyptian Academy of Scientific Research (ENSTINET) take pleasure in announcing a National Congress of Egyptian Medical Librarians and a Regional Conference on Eastern Mediterranean Region Virtual Health Sciences Library, which will be held at the Regional Office in Cairo during the period 23-25 November 2004 with the following objectives:

1. To review progress made in development of the EMR Virtual Health Sciences Library;

2. To discuss the role of the digital (electronic) library in supporting e-learning initiative and  programmes;

3. To introduce the concept of Information Society and progress since the World Summit on Information Society (WSIS);

4. To review national experience and initiatives towards development of digital libraries;

5. To discuss the role of the digital (electronic) library in the development of the Information Society;

6. To review e-Learning: progress over the last 10 years and way forward.
