Dear friends and colleagues
The Regional Office has organized a series of regional conferences on health sciences libraries in Beirut, Teheran, Karachi
and Cairo in November
2004. Among the most constant and repeated recommendations was to:
"Establish and maintain the EMRVL Listsrv based on the lists of participants in these conferences and open its membership for all health sciences librarians and information specialists in the Region"
I am pleased to confirm to all of you that we have taken the necessary steps to establish the first listsrv for health sciences librarians in the Region. In fact as far as I know it is the first listsrv dedicated for librarians in the Region. Lets make use of this initiative by being active members of the List, by speaking up and expressing our views. The only way to go forward is to work together and to share knowledge and resources.
I strongly believe that in our Region we have the capacity and potential to help ourselves and be less dependent on external support, only if we work together.
This short message is meant to introduce the Listsrv and welcome all of you in its membership. I look forward to receiving your contributions and comments. From our part we will listen carefully and try hard to work with you. Our aim is to build the Regional Health Sciences Virtual Library. Lets build it together.
The policy for this List is to open it to all librarians in the Region. The core membership of course is in health sciences libraries and library and information science indicators, but please take this as an open invitation for all librarians to join in and be part of the virtual community of librarians in the Region.
