OneHealth Model

The United Nations (UN) OneHealth Model is a new software costing tool designed to strengthen health system analysis, costing and financing scenarios at country level. It is the first costing tool to present the detailed components of existing tools in a uniform format and link them together. The tool is modular in format and can be easily adapted to country contexts to strengthen the capacity of the health system. It can be used to support the development of a national health strategic plan, a medium-term expenditure framework or a needs assessment for the Millennium Development Goals.

The OneHealth Model costing tool enables countries to calculate and plan in the context of national and sub-national health processes. For instance, the United Nations Secretary General’s Global Strategy for Women’s and Children’s Health calls for an additional US$27 per capita in low-income countries to improve maternal and child health. An estimated US$40 billion in funding has already been committed over the next five years. OneHealth helps countries to plan and spend that money for best effect.
