2 million children under five targeted for immunization against polio in Egypt, 21-24 April 2012

The campaign, which was supported by communities and political leaders in all governorates of Egypt, aimed to reach every child and achieve vaccination of more than 95% of targeted children at district level.  The reported number of children vaccinated was 13 078 389 children under 5 years. The national administrative coverage was 103.4%,  including 2 928 379 children under 1 year (22.4%) nationally. All governorates achieved more than 99% coverage. About 15 million doses of of trivalent oral poliovaccine (tOPV) were used at an average rate of 17 children vaccinated per vaccine vial.

On a daily basis, meetings were conducted in all governorates to review the campaign activities and immediate action taken to resolve any problems related to the activities.
