The WHO Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean and the American University in Cairo successfully completed the Second Leadership Course in Mental Health in July 2016. The 2-week course aimed to develop a strong community of leaders in mental health, to augment coverage for mental health care. A key objective of this course was to work with mental health professionals and to equip them with a public health approach to mental health issues, to enable them to sustain strong advocacy at national level.

This course is unique in that its curriculum has been developed by various stakeholders to reflect the needs and traditions specific to the Eastern Mediterranean Region. Moreover, it provides its graduates with a platform to network, discuss, consult and collaborate with other experts and professionals in this region, and internationally – in order to effect the desired change in countries.
