Afghanistan reassesses health sector emergency preparedness and response plan
Afghanistan’s Ministry of Public Health, with technical assistance from WHO, has launched a comprehensive programme on health emergency management targeting the country’s health sector’s emergency preparedness and response (EPR) plan.
A workshop was held in Kabul, Afghanistan, in July 2010, to review the existing EPR capacity at the national level and the health sector’s crisis preparedness and develop a road map to facilitate EPR planning based on the All Hazards Framework.
More than 65 participants, including key partners (government, nongovernmental organizations, international nongovernmental organizations, donors, UN agencies, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, American Red Cross Society, Afghanistan National Disaster Management Authority and other relevant national institutions) participated in the workshop and contributed to the assessment, analysis and formulation of the final recommendations.
The road map was presented in the workshop and was agreed upon by the Ministry Of Public Health and all other stakeholders who will participate in implementation.
