Good Governance for Medicines (GGM)
Phase-I training package for
Arabic speaking countries,
Cairo, Egypt, 13-15 December
2010
The
training is the first Good
Governance for Medicines event
using the newly developed Arabic
training Package. The original
English language package was
translated and adapted to make
it accessible to more countries
from the Eastern Mediterranean
region. The training will be
conducted using the expertise of
trainers from the region who
have gained exposure through the
programmer’s implementation in
several countries of the EMR.
This regional focus is an
attempt to tailor the programme
and make it most useful to
Member States by adapting the
content as suits national needs.
Participants in this training
event will be the nominated
national assessors and
government counterparts. The
training aims to introduce the
WHO methodology for measuring
transparency and vulnerability
to corruption in the
pharmaceutical sector using the
WHO assessment. Along the
training course participants
will be exposed to hands on
exercises and activities to
ensure they are equipped with
the necessary technical know-how
and skills on the subject.
The
Good Governance for Medicines
programme is currently being
implemented globally in 26
countries, including five from
the Eastern Mediterranean
Region. Jordan has launched
their national Good Governance
for Medicines Framework while
Lebanon has prepared a draft GGM
Framework. Morocco and the
Syrian Arab Republic have
completed national assessments
on transparency and
vulnerability to corruption and
are preparing for the next
phase.
WHO
EMRO provides technical
assistance to countries in the
implementation of the
transparency assessment
recommendations.
