Disclaimer
WHO/EMRO has prepared these
prototype designs in response to
demand from country offices and
ministries of health for simple,
easy-to-understand messages. This
was a preventive measure due to the
prevailing concern that in the
absence of technically sound
messages, inaccurate advocacy
materials may be published and
disseminated with misleading
information.
The messages are intended to be
shared by WHO with Ministries of
Health and it is preferred that they
become available to the public
through them.
WHO Regional Offices are welcome to
replace the EMRO emblem with their
own. Ministries of Health may place
their own emblems next to that of
the relevant WHO Regional Office.
What matters the most is that WHO
offices should ensure that when
translated the messages continue to
conform to the original text which
is in line with the
WHO’s
global guidelines for the public.
WHO does not normally take
responsibility for local language
versions of its materials but in
this case it is felt important to
check the translation and since the
text is short this should not pose a
burden. It will be very much
appreciated if you share with us a
copy of the locally adapted versions
of this poster along with any other
advocacy materials you might have
prepared on Pandemic (H1N1) 2009
Other UN agencies are welcome to
make use of the materials internally
and, if appropriate, in
collaboration with national
counterparts. However, it is
preferable in this regard to promote
intersectoral
collaboration with the Ministry of
Health (see above). UN agencies are
welcome to add their emblem to the
poster beside that of WHO (and may,
if so preferred, replace the WHO
EMRO logotype with the global WHO
emblem).
In view of the linguistic and
cultural diversity of regions and
countries, it is not feasible to
have one comprehensive solution,
responsive to different local
set-ups. These designs are not a
substitute for country specific
solutions; however they are prepared
in a very simple outlined
illustrative format with no intended
reference to any gender, culture,
religion or costume so that they can
be easily adapted locally.
Since the messages are subject to
adaptation and modification in
different places, WHO/EMRO will not
produce hard copy of these materials
and will make them available only in
different electronic formats.
The messages selected for the
posters are in conformity with
WHO’s
global guidelines for the public. It
is important to note that the
messages are subject to change,
should any change occur in the
pandemic situation or severity of
the disease. Some countries may need
to remove some of the messages or
come up with new ones according to
their specific situations and
priorities. Where countries
introduce new messages the WHO
emblem should be removed from the
information materials, unless those
messages have been developed in
coordination with a WHO office and
it has been checked that the message
conforms with WHO guidelines. In
this case we would appreciate being
informed (the new message may be one
we can use).
