WHO and Oman partner to advance water safety

27 April 2025  – The World Health Organization (WHO), in collaboration with Oman’s Authority for Public Services Regulation (APSR), convened a Water Safety Forum between 13 and 17 April 2025.

The forum began with a high-level policy session encouraging decision-makers to advocate for water safety plans (WSP) and secure robust government buy-in. The opening session paved the way for 4 days of intensive training that brought together over 40 participants from licensed companies operating within Oman's water sector.

The aim of the forum was two-fold, to secure political commitment and align WSP implementation with Oman's national priorities, and to develop the technical capabilities of national professionals in line with global advances in water safety management and best practices.  Participants engaged in discussions, groupwork and a field visit to a Nama Water Services facility, fostering the exchange of knowledge and practical insights.

The initiative underscored ASPR’s commitment to improving water service quality, environmental sustainability and national expertise in partnership with WHO, positioning Oman as a regional leader in water safety.

Oman has developed exemplary policies on water safety management, with APSR leading in regulating water quality standards and promoting continuous professional development.

The integration of WSP in Oman's legislative and technical frameworks was highlighted as crucial for long-term water safety and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
