1 August 2017 – WHO will start to conduct a new round of the STEPwise survey for 2016–2017 in Egypt, in collaboration and partnership with the Ministry of Health and Population and the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS), on 2 August, 2017.
The new round of the STEPwise survey in Egypt will collect consistent data and will be implemented at national level in 22 governorates of the country.
Data collected from the survey will enable comparison with data from the previous survey conducted in 2011–2012. The surveys are totally funded and coordinated by WHO.
Egypt is going to implement the 3 steps of the survey. CAPMAS, the main statistical agency in Egypt, will be responsible for step 1 implementation and the Ministry will be responsible for step 2 and 3.
At any time in the field there will 10 teams, each team consisting of 8 field workers: 1 field supervisor, 4 field interviewers, 2 medical persons and 1 IT staff. This amounts to a total of 80 field workers, in addition to quality control staff from both national partners who will be travelling around the country to collect data using standard survey tools for data collection by tablets and medical equipment for physical measurement and biological testing in addition to gathering urine samples to test for sodium in urine.
The survey will help health services in Egypt to plan and determine public health priorities and to predict future caseloads of noncommunicable diseases, in addition to evaluating existing population-wide interventions.
