The WHO country office in Egypt celebrated the World Cancer day 2018 by sharing a story of a member of the Egyptian Parliament who has cancer. 

Anissa Hassouna describes her feelings when she discovered by chance that she had cancer,“To love and be loved are the magical recipe to support you in fighting cancer”. It’s not only about medical care but love, care and kindness”.

Everybody should show their love to the ones they love and not hide their feelings until it's too late. “The same as the medical team has their role in treating patients with cancer family and friends have another major parallel role in supporting the patient by providing all the love and care he/she needs in his fight with cancer,” declared Hassouna. 

Anissa Hassouna’s story was published on World Cancer day, on 4 February 2018, to remind us that cancer care is not only about giving medical care but also about providing emotional and psychological support.
