art_competition27 June 2018 – The WHO country office in Egypt awarded the winners of the World Health Day art competition 2018, in the presence of Dr John Jabbour, WHO Representative in Egypt, on Tuesday 26 June 2018.

The art competition is organized every year, in collaboration with the WHO Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean and Egyptian Ministry of Education.

Each year, a particular theme is selected to highlight a priority area of public health and the theme of this year’s campaign was universal health coverage, under the slogan “Health for all”.

Dr John Jabbour welcomed the winners and their parents and congratulated them for their artwork. The children explained their ideas. The celebration ended by giving the children who came from different governorates their awards.

Universal health coverage is based on the 1948 WHO Constitution, which declares health a fundamental human right and commits to ensuring the highest attainable level of health for all. Despite that, about 100 million people are still pushed into “extreme poverty” because they have to pay for health care.

Universal health coverage enables everyone to access the services that address the most important causes of disease and death, and ensure that the quality of those services is good enough to improve the health of the people who receive them.
